Nominations for the 2017 WA Science Hall of Fame are closed.

T2016 Praeger HoF web.jpghe Western Australian Science Hall of Fame was established in 2007 to recognise exceptional, lifelong contributions to science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) in Western Australia.

The 2017 inductee will be selected from nominations submitted by members of the public. Posthumous nominations will be accepted.

To be admitted to the WA Science Hall of Fame an individual must:

  • have undertaken a substantial portion of their work in Western Australia;
  • have a substantial track record as a scientist;
  • be internationally renowned in their field;
  • have been instrumental in developing a school of thought and/or policy in the State;
  • be engaged in outreach; and
  • have been influential in the development of graduate students.

Who can nominate

Members of the community are invited to nominate outstanding Western Australian individuals to be considered for the 2017 inductee to the WA Science Hall of Fame.

Nominations for the 2017 WA Science Hall of Fame are closed.

Nominations for the 2018 round will open early next year. Please check this page for updates. Note that late nominations for the 2017 round are not being accepted.

Please discuss your nomination with your nominee to ensure the content is accurate. Note that only the selected inductee will be notified by the Office of Science.

Selection process

Nominations will be considered by a panel comprising the Chief Scientist of Western Australia and two members of the WA Science Hall of Fame. This panel will present names of potential inductees to the Premier for final approval. The selected inductee will be notified by the Office of Science prior to the public announcement.

This honour is reserved for the highest achievement and contribution to science in the State. If a suitable recipient is not identified, the Premier reserves the right to not announce an inductee for the year.

Announcement

The inductee will be announced as part of the annual Premier's Science Awards presentations, which will take place in the last trimester of 2017. Their profile is then listed on the Western Australian Science Hall of Fame honour board located in Scitech. An event to celebrate the unveiling of the inductee's citation at Scitech will be held shortly after the announcement.​
