The State Government led clean-up effort at Yarloop, which was devastated by bushfires earlier this year, has found evidence of historical environmental contamination in some areas of the town.
In relation to the contaminated areas, the State Government will
- Remediate destroyed residential property sites to enable reconstruction;
- Inspect surviving residential properties and where required, make safe and fit for habitation; and
- Clean up public open spaces to make them safe for their intended use.
This work is not expected to impact the original clean-up schedule of six to nine months.
State Government will continue to keep the community informed about the clean-up process and reassure the community that the discovery of historic contamination will not prejudice future options for Yarloop.
