National Redress Scheme

Text Size a a a Print Print this page

The Western Australian Parliament has passed the National Redress Scheme for Institutional Child Sexual Abuse (Commonwealth Powers) Act 2018 (WA). This Act allows the Western Australian Government and Western Australian-based non-government institutions to participate in the Scheme.

The Western Australian Government will be participating in the National Redress Scheme from 1 January 2019.

The Western Australian Government’s participation recognises Western Australians who have experienced child sexual abuse in government institutions, with a view to righting past wrongs and making amends. It also provides a simpler and streamlined alternative to pursuing civil litigation through the courts.

The Western Australia Redress Coordination Unit has been established within the Commissioner for Victims of Crime Office, Department of Justice, to support the Western Australian Government’s participation in the Scheme.

Information about the National Redress Scheme and detail about how to apply can be found on the Scheme’s web site: https://www.nationalredress.gov.au/ or by calling the National Redress Information Line - 1800 146 713.
