TITLE

ADVERTISING AND COMMUNICATIONS EXPENDITURE

POLICY

Directors General and Chief Executive Officers are responsible for ensuring that advertising and communications undertaken by their agencies are in response to a clearly articulated need, provide accurate information, achieve value for money and comply with Government policies.

The Government is committed to reducing advertising and communications expenditure by $20 million each year.

All Directors Generals and Chief Executives are to conduct a review of all current and planned advertising and communications and take immediate action to reduce expenditure to assist the Government to meet this objective.

Departments and agencies must ensure that all expenditure is justified and is absolutely necessary in terms of achieving business and portfolio outcomes.

BACKGROUND

In accordance with Premier's Circular 2014/03 - Government Advertising and Communications Policy, all public sector agencies other than those listed in Schedule 1 of the Public Sector Management Act 1994 must comply with the Government Advertising and Communications Policy and Guidelines. All Government advertising and communications must be approved by the Department of the Premier and Cabinet.

The Department of the Premier and Cabinet maintains an Independent Communications Review Committee (ICRC) to ensure agencies comply with the policy and supporting guidelines with respect to advertising and communications.
