The COAG Secretariat was established in late 2012, following a restructure of the Cabinet and Policy Division, and coordinates Western Australia's response to intergovernmental matters. Policy officers from the Secretariat work with their colleagues within DPC and across the public sector to ensure the Premier and Senior Officials are provided with high quality advice from a whole of government perspective.
The Secretariat coordinates treaty, national inquiry and select intergovernmental agreement matters on behalf of the WA Government. The Secretariat additionally provides support to the Executive Coordinating Committee and the Directors-General Forum.
The Secretariat is involved in some areas of policy work and maintains capacity to undertake additional work at the request of the DPC Director General and Deputy Directors General as the need arises. The policy focus of the team is currently on public sector innovation, capacity building across the WA public service, and information and communication technologies.
