The Federal State Relations Unit coordinates the Western Australian Government's response to requests from the national Standing Committee on Treaties in consultation with relevant agencies in order to

  • facilitate Western Australian participation in significant international treaty negotiations;
  • manage Western Australian Government input to national interest analyses of all treaties to be considered by the Commonwealth;
  • coordinate Western Australian Government submissions to the Commonwealth in support of Australia's obligations under international instruments; and
  • provide strategic input and support at key points of agency-specific treaty and national reform negotiations.

Acknowledgement of Country

The Government of Western Australia acknowledges the traditional custodians throughout Western Australia and their continuing connection to the land, waters and community. We pay our respects to all members of the Aboriginal communities and their cultures; and to Elders both past and present.
