Workforce Planning

The most valuable asset that the public sector has is its workforce.

The Public Sector Management Division (PSMD) strives to lead and support the Western Australian public sector to continually adapt to a range of factors that will have an effect on the type, size and composition of its workforce.

Workforce planning is an essential aspect of planning for the future. It is about knowing your workforce and being responsive to the various factors that will influence your workforce needs.

Social, economic, political, environmental and technological factors can have a short and long-term influence on the way that services are provided, as well as the people that are required to provide the services.

PSMD helps agencies to be informed and proactively respond to challenging trends across the sector, such as an increasing population, ageing workforce and demand for services, amongst many others. It provides tools and publications to support effective workforce planning across the public sector.

By helping agencies to build and maintain the public sector workforce, PSMD is helping to ensure that the Western Australian community receives high quality services into the future.
