Governance

Corporate governance refers to the systems and practices by which organisations are directed and managed. The Public Sector Management Division (PSMD) strives to provide leadership and support on governance issues impacting agencies across the sector.

Public sector corporate governance systems and practices need to address the often competing and varied influences and constraints that apply to agencies delivering government services. For example, the community often expects the public sector to maintain higher standards of stewardship, probity, transparency and accountability than the private sector.

Effective and meaningful corporate governance is a critical component in the public sector accountability chain, enabling Ministerial oversight and accountability for the performance of a public sector agency.

Through governance tools, publications and advice PSMD aims to support the performance of agencies and the achievement of their required outcomes for the benefit of the Western Australian community.
