Intergovernmental Policy
The Department's Intergovernmental Relations Unit:
- Supports the Premier by providing strategic advice on cooperation between the Western Australian government and other governments in the Australian Federation;
- Leads State negotiations and consultation on matters concerning the Council of Australian Governments(COAG), the Council for the Australian Federation, treaties, and federal and financial reforms of strategic importance to WA; and
- Monitors and reports on the implementation of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Federal Financial Relations and associated National Agreements, National Partnership Agreements and Bilateral Agreements.
The Intergovernmental Relations Unit operates in five key work areas:
- Council of Australian Governments (COAG)
- Treaties
- National Inquiries
- Mutual Recognition
- Council for the Australian Federation
